Jeannette Rankin's Legacy

Jeannette Rankin is generally known as the only woman to give an anti-war vote for both World Wars but she was so much more than just that. Not only did she fight for peace, but she fought for the rights of women and children and paved a way for women in law. She led the way for many women to come after her including Rebecca Latimer Felton (the first female Senator), Mae Ella Nolan (the first female Chairperson of a Congressional committee), Frances Perkins (the first female Cabinet member), and even Nancy Pelosi (the first female Speaker of the House). Her courage to speak up and do things no other person had ever tried to do made many of these new opportunities for women able to happen and continues to influence women to be "agents of change". Her passion and unwillingness to give up made the future we have now possible. The legacy and impact she left behind lives on in women who want to make a difference.
